We’ve all got our stories of trials and tribulations when immigrating to the US. So my wife and I sold our cars and were heading for a new life with our two kids in Florida. Not being aware of any other way to do it we walked into a Thomas Cook and put 10,000 split over two of their currency cards. Despite trying to negotiate a better rate we got 1.56 when the rate on the BBC website was 1.61
Although using the card in Florida was relatively easy we were nervous about the lack of security and would have definitely preferred to have had the money in a bank.
After chatting to a friend of mine he mentioned he used a Currency exchange company and referred me to Currencies Direct. When we sold our UK home we needed to transfer £200,000 across, I got a quote from Barclays Bank when the rate was 1.56 and they offered me 1.51! Currencies Direct gave me 1.54 which meant I got $6,000 more in my bank account.
The process was very easy and secure I recommend anyone to look at alternatives to their bank; I had a great experience with Currencies Direct and would definitely use them again.
